How to replace a power steering pump on BMW 325i?

This procedure applies only to models with conventional power steering. On models with electric power steering, the motor is integral with the rack assembly. Consult a dealer or parts specialist with regard to parts availability. Block the rear wheels, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the fasteners and the engine under-shield. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Release the drive belt tension and unhook the drive belt from the pump pulley. Using a brake hose clamp, clamp the return hose near the power steering fluid reservoir. This will minimize fluid loss during subsequent operations. With a drain pan in place under the pump, remove the banjo bolt securing the pressure hose. Collect the old fluid and dispose of it properly. Remove the bolt securing the air conditioning pipe to the power steering pump bracket, then remove the two bolts securing the pump bracket to the engine. Disconnect the return hose and the pressure line, then remove the power steering pump mounting bolts. The mounting bolts are aluminum and must be replaced. If the power steering pump is faulty, seek the advice of your dealer or auto parts store as to the availability of new or remanufactured pumps. Where necessary, transfer the rear mounting bracket to the new pump, and securely tighten its mounting bolts. Prior to installation, ensure that the pump is primed by injecting the specified type of fluid in through the supply hose union and rotating the pump shaft. Maneuver the pump into position and install the pivot bolts, tightening them to the specified torque. Position a new sealing washer on each side of the pressure hose banjo fitting and install the banjo bolt. Tighten the banjo bolt to the specified torque. Install the return hose to the pump and tighten the hose clamp. Install and tension the drivebelt. Install the air cleaner assembly. Lower the vehicle to the ground and bleed the hydraulic system.
