  • Q: How to remove the engine knock sensors located under the intake manifold on the left side of the engine block for N20 and N26 engines on BMW 428i?
    A:
    The left-hand side of the engine block, beneath the intake manifold, houses engine knock sensors. To begin, disconnect the negative battery cable and cover the battery terminal to prevent it from coming into contact with the battery. The throttle valve should only be removed when the engine is cool. Then, unplug the knock sensor electrical connector on the left side of the engine block in front of the alternator. Remove the knock sensor mounting bolt on the side of the cylinder block. Remove the sensor. To access cylinders three and four, after letting the engine cool down completely. Remove the starter motor. Then disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector on the left-hand side of the engine block. After that unbolt the knock sensor from the side of the cylinder block and remove the sensor.
