How to replace the electric door lock actuator on BMW X3?

The electric door lock actuator is part of the door lock unit and is not available separately from BMW. Ensure the door window is closed before proceeding. Begin by removing the door handle and then the door panel. Unclip the electrical connection from the door lock and the wiring harness clip, followed by unclipping the lock rod from the door lock. Partially remove the vapor barrier from inside the door and feed out the wires from it, taking care to avoid damage, as a damaged vapor barrier should be replaced to prevent water leaks. While working inside the door cavity, unclip the bowden cable from the door lock assembly. When reinstalling, ensure that the lock cylinder drive is properly seated, and take care not to damage the lock seal during removal. Remove the screws and feed out the door lock from inside the door cavity, with installation being the reverse of removal.

The BMW X3 Door Lock prevents the door latch from releasing until a command for unlocking the door is initiated. When the door shuts, this Door Lock's latch clasp grabs onto a jamb-mounted striker. A key-operated cylinder or interior knob blocks the exterior handle to deny entry. In many BMW X3 models, the Door Lock comes with a switch and an actuator built into the latch, enabling the cabin switch to lock or unlock every door while giving the driver master control.
