The Idle Control Valve, located directly above the throttle housing, regulates idle speed by redirecting air around the throttle valve and is powered by battery voltage from the DME main relay, featuring a two-coil rotary actuator with pulsed coil grounds from the ECM to adjust the duty cycle for the desired idle speed. A malfunctioning valve triggers a diagnostic trouble code (DTC), and the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) activates if the OBD fault criteria are met. To address this, first switch off the ignition and remove the key, then disconnect the negative battery cable in the cargo compartment, ensuring to read the battery disconnection cautions beforehand. Next, remove the air filter housing and intake ducts, disconnect the electrical connectors to the
Intake Manifold resonance valve and Idle Control Valve, and take out the upper wiring harness housing mounting fastener while slightly pulling back the harness housing. Remove the screws securing the Idle Control Valve mounting bracket and pull the idle regulator off the intake manifold, replacing the rubber grommet during reinstallation by coating it with assembly lubricant before pressing it back into place. Finally, reattach the wiring harnesses, reinstall the air filter assembly and ducts, and check and clear any fault codes from the ECM memory.
