How do you remove the gearshift knob on BMW X3?

How to remove shift knob remains the same whether buying a manual or automatic car and it is advised that you switch the engine off when undertaking the process. For the models with a manual transmission, press down on both the circumference of the shift knob frame to release the knob off of the center console area. In the automatic models, stretch the knob on the leather and push the frame inside and up position, which unlocks catch at the top left. As the knob with the frame is being lifted, press in on the frame until it comes out completely. It is a common practice that installation is done in the reverse order of removal and one has to make sure that no retainer lug has been lost or damaged. To unlock and to retract the shift knob, the user has to pull it directly up this with take about 45-90 lbs. of force. One has to be a little careful not to damage the knob locating tabs by not applying any twist force to remove the knobs.
