How to properly remove and install a steering wheel while ensuring the airbag and steering column components are handled correctly on BMW X3?

Center the steering wheel with the front wheels pointed straight ahead and disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery. Prior to disconnecting the battery, read the battery disconnection cautions. Carefully remove the airbag from the front of the steering wheel and store the airbag unit in a safe place. Remove the steering wheel center bolt, noting that the steering column and steering wheel are match marked at the factory. The MRS contact reel, integral with the steering column switch block, is a wound wire coil that ensures continuous electrical contact for the airbag and steering wheel components; its position must not be altered when the steering wheel is removed. Check for proper alignment of the steering column marks before removing the steering wheel. When installing the steering wheel, align the match marks on the steering wheel and column, align the steering wheel to the alignment pins on the steering column switch block, and install the steering column center bolt without over-torquing. Finally, carefully install the airbag.
