How to remove and handle airbag and Air Bag Sensor on BMW Z4?

All models are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), commonly known as an airbag, designed to protect the driver and front seat passenger from serious injury during head-on or frontal collisions. The system includes airbag sensors mounted on the seat crossmember for side impact airbags and a sensing/diagnostic module located near the floor console. Airbag assemblies are positioned on the steering wheel and the passenger's side dash, with side-impact airbags in the seat backs and head protection airbags in the headliner A pillars. Two types of driver's airbags may be installed, with models from September 1999 featuring "Smart" airbags that deploy in two stages based on impact severity. When working near the steering wheel or SRS components, the system must be disarmed by turning the key to the Lock position, disconnecting the negative battery terminal, and waiting two minutes. Always handle airbag modules with the opening facing away from the body and never measure resistance of SRS components.
