A new drain plug gasket will be required on installation. The transmission fluid should be drained with the transmission at operating temperature, which can be achieved if the car has been driven at least 10 miles. Immediately after driving, park the car on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and if desired, jack it up and support it on axle stands to improve access while ensuring the car remains level. Working under the car, loosen the transmission fluid pan drain plug about half a turn, position a draining container under the plug, and then remove it completely, trying to keep the plug pressed into the fluid pan while unscrewing it by hand for the last couple of turns. Measure the amount of fluid drained and recover the gasket from the drain plug. Install the drain plug using a new gasket and tighten it to the specified torque. Remove all the mounting fasteners for the transmission oil pan, then take off the pan gasket and clean the mating surfaces of the oil pan and transmission. If equipped, remove the mounting fasteners for the transmission oil filter and take it out, using a seal puller if necessary to remove the seal from the transmission. Install a new filter along with new seals, then clean the inside of the pan and the magnet(s) using only lint-free rags or solvent with compressed air. Using a new pan gasket, install the oil pan and tighten the fasteners to the specified torque. Fill the transmission with the specified type of fluid through the filler/level plug hole, starting with the amount recorded earlier to avoid overfilling. Check the fluid level, keeping in mind that the new fluid will not yet be at operating temperature. With the parking brake applied and the transmission selector lever in position P, start the engine and run it at idle for a few minutes to warm up the new fluid, then recheck the fluid level, noting that it may be necessary to drain off a little fluid once the new fluid has reached operating temperature.
