Fire up the vehicle and remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Pull down the rear storage box/ashtray lid and push at the rear end of the lid to raise the box/ashtray upwards. Degrease the ashtray/storage box surround; remove it while disconnecting the illumination; take out the expanding plastic rivets and the retaining screws. Release boot of parking brake lever, which is fixed on the console. These consist of an ashtray cum storage box surround at the rear of the console which requires the removal of the two screws before pulling out the respective sides for easy removal. It is then necessary to carefully pull out the gear lever boot from the surrounding trim note on the removal of the trim bezel for automatic transmission vehicles. Undo the two screws at the back of the aperture, raise the boot surround panel and with reference to the fitted locations of the screws and disconnecting the wiring connectors, ease the back part of the console backwards. Talk the centre console over the parking brake control and, where provided, raise the armrest to draw the rear of the console up and forward. If so desired, the armrest must then be unbolted from its base by means of two nuts that secure it to the frame of the car and the parking brake warning switch must also be disconnected. Last but not the least, slide the center console on to the parking brake lever and the upright armrest and make sure that all the nuts and screws that are used are tightened during the time of replacement.
