BMW Z4 Door Lock

The BMW Z4 Door Lock offers a secure closure that protects against theft while allowing quick access to the cabin. Early BMW Z4 models are outfitted with a traditional key-operated lock cylinder connected by rods to the latch. Thus, when the key is turned or the inside knob is pushed, it disables the outside handle. This Door Lock configuration ensures the latch stays secured to the striker until released. As the Z4 line advanced, BMW introduced power locking, which mounts an electric actuator on the latch, permitting a door-panel switch or master driver to command every Door Lock at once. The later Z4 generations came with remote keyless entry, which allows the locking and unlocking of the car from a distance by means of a coded radio signal that is sent from the key fob to a receiver, which orders the Door Lock to cycle. In these remote keys, usually, the LED lights will flash and the horn will sound, which will indicate the locking or unlocking has been successful. Subsequently, automatic locking was introduced, which made each Door Lock engage automatically when Drive was selected or a preset speed reached and reopen in Park. While the mechanical latch remains relatively constant throughout these versions, the method of triggering the latch differs. It starts with the traditional physical key before moving on to switch-driven motor and wireless signal. The manner of triggering the latch becomes progressively easier and faster for any BMW enthusiast with each version.
