The rear wheel bearing is fitted to the trailing arm after having been pressed into the required position while the wheel hub is fitted to the bearing after being pressed into the required position. The wheel bearing gets affected when the drive hub is withdrawn and is not interchangeable. This makes it necessary to use special press tools and still retain the trailing arm fixed on the vehicle as and when one is replacing a wheel bearing. To embark on the job one must have adequate knowledge on the procedure involved.

Lift the car and have the front wheel be dropped, you should then get rid of the underbody splash shield. Next, have the steering knuckle up and set it in a bench vise by using aluminum Jaw vise. Use BMW special tools 332160/332116/334200 to pull out the wheel hub; the rounded interior side of tool 332160 must face the wheel hub. Continue to take out the wheel bearing using the following BMW special tools 3121131, 334261/333266/333261. Look at the dust sleeve and if needed put it another one. To guarantee proper and secure connection of the bearing, it has to be cleaned before Loctite 638 is applied to 50% of the length of the bearing with the chamfer facing the steering knuckle.

Utilize BMW bearing extraction tools to pull the bearing assembly out of the trailing arm bearing housing.
