    Q:
How to remove and install the Camshaft Position Sensor on the BMW 325i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Unfasten the air intake duct mounting bolts and detach the duct. The air hose should be disconnected as the duct is being removed. In front of their respective camshaft ends, you will find that a CMP sensor is placed on each side of the cylinder head. Ensure that ignition has been turned off. Press together locking lugs and pull off sensor wiring plug. At this point, depress clip and separate connector for electrical power to CMP sensor. To remove Sensor loosen bolt retaining it in place. Find seal and recover it by removing screwdriver from its location at the end of fixing bolt connections where it attaches itself onto sealing surface (when required). Replace seal if necessary or damaged. It's just like putting back old things in place after getting out new ones for an exchange before putting them back again.

    Q:
Where are the intake and exhaust camshaft position sensors located and how to replace them on a BMW X3? Posted by Customer
    A:
The intake Camshaft Position Sensor on the M54 engine is located at the left side of the cylinder head close to its front. First, ensure that the ignition is turned off as a safety precaution. Remove upper engine covers and also air-filter housing with ducts. At the left side of the cylinder head, disconnect Engine Vent Hose from Cylinder Head Cover and VANOS solenoid electrical connector. Unscrew VANOS solenoid and in case of need, disconnect oil supply line from VANOS adjustment unit. Take away Camshaft Position Sensor mounting bolt followed by taking out the sensor from cylinder head. We shall reach under the Intake Manifold to remove Camshaft Position Sensor Harness Bracket Assembly so we can unplug its harness before we can take it out completely. Before removal, attach a stiff wire to the connector that will enable you to route harness during reinstallation easily. While installing new sensor use new sealing O-rings only; make sure that sensor harness is routed same way as before. Verify and clear any fault codes stored in ECM memory. Check ECU for error codes responsible for setting off MIL light. Replacing exhaust Camshaft Position Sensor on M54 engine is similar but it locates on right side of cylinder head closest to front. Besides for N52 engines, intake one mounts at left front face of cylinder head while exhaust one mounts at right front face of cylinder head. Similarly, if not identical steps are followed when replacing these sensors as for M54 engine whereby ignition should be ensured that it is off first together with removing upper engine covers, air filter housing plus ducting, detaching Camshaft Position Sensor electrical connector, removing mounting bolt and installing new one using new sealed O-rings. Verify and clear any fault codes stored in ECM memory. Walk around car ensuring every door is shut tightly or not.
