BMW special tools are specified for removing and installing wheel hub, 81642 155 744, 81642 155 745, 81 64 2 155 746, 81642 318 661; raise vehicle and remove wheel; with an assistant applying brakes, break free and remove staked collar nut; disconnect brake pad sensor connector at brake caliper; remove brake caliper and rotor, leave brake hose connected to caliper and suspend caliper assembly from chassis using stiff wire; disconnect parking brake cables from brake shoe expanders; remove ABS wheel speed sensor at wheel bearing carrier; remove rear drive axle; use BMW special tool or equivalent to remove wheel hub. Caution, the wheel bearing is destroyed when the hub is removed; parts and tools: Rear wheel hub, Wheel carrier, Washer, Adapter, Holding sleeve M24, Spindle M24/M20 (length 425 mm), Hydraulic unit, Device, Two variants of wheel carrier are installed (90 mm diameter, 102 mm diameter), M12 x 1.5 bolts; replace wheel bearing; use BMW special tool to install wheel hub and axle, use adapter 81 64 2 318 661 on hydraulic unit with a torque wrench set to 20 Nm (15 ft-lb) and draw driveshaft into wheel hub until torque is reached; installation parts: Drive flange hub, Wheel carrier, Output shaft, Hydraulic unit, Holding sleeve M24, Washer, Spindle M24/M20 (length 335 mm), Adapter M24 x 1.5 to M20; remainder of installation is reverse of removal, use new collar nut at outboard end of drive axle, restake nut after tightening, and adjust parking brake when job is complete.
