Drain the power steering fluid reservoir using a clean syringe and do not reuse the fluid. Raise the front of the car and remove the front wheels. Remove the splash shield from under the engine and the front end reinforcement plate. Remove the outer tie rod ends and the stabilizer bar links from the stabilizer bar. Remove the double universal joint lower pinch bolt and disengage it from the Rack And Pinions, ensuring to lock the steering wheel in position to prevent damage to the MRS contact reel. For vehicles equipped with servotronic, remove the electro hydraulic converter. Detach the quick connect high-pressure fittings on the Rack And Pinions by turning and pushing inwards, and be prepared to catch any dripping fluid. Unbolt the Rack And Pinions mounting Torx fasteners while counter holding the nuts above the rack and discard the fasteners. If necessary, remove the pressure line from the front subframe, twist the left steering knuckle to the left, and slide the Rack And Pinions to the left side, ensuring no fluid lines or electrical harnesses are snagged. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring all thread bores, bolts, nuts, splines, and mating surfaces are clean, routing power steering fluid lines without tension and with sufficient spacing to nearby components, using new Rack And Pinions mounting bolts, replacing the steering spindle double joint with flex disc pinch bolts, and using new self-locking fasteners where applicable. Rotate the steering wheel to check that the steering spindle and double universal joint do not contact the vehicle chassis or front subframe. After reassembling the steering and front suspension, fill and bleed the power steering, have the car professionally aligned, and carry out steering angle sensor calibration using a BMW diagnostic scan tool.
