    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
How to remove and install a turbocharger and Exhaust Manifold in N55 six cylinder engine on BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Secure the engine from the top and take of the catalytic converter. Secondly, turn out the engine cooling fan and cowl and thirdly, remove the intercooler. Remove the engine coolant and the coolant expansion tank; you can thereafter remove the coolant pump. Following that, it is necessary to remove the air box and the air intake duct and to unbolt the coolant supply line connections, having in mind to catch in some sort of container whatever coolant may still remain in the lines. When at the turbocharger, unscrew the nut and let the coolant flow through the supply and return hoses, and then put a container below to capture any dripping coolant. To provide access to the bracket, the fasteners do not have to be removed but could be loosened: the fastener, together with the oil line, must be removed after; allow the spilled oil to drip. Further proceed by disconnecting the oil return line and coolant line at the engine; such may drip hence one should be ready for it. Remove the wastegate valve connector and the nut; unbolt the oil supply line at the engine side as well as vacuum supply line from the wastegate actuator side. Disconnect the vacuum lines from the solenoid valve, next undo the fastener and the solenoid valve. Take out bolts securing heat shield, the heat shore and bolts for the turbo charger flange. Lower the turbocharger from the head and rotate it in the downward position and backward, so as to detach the oil supply line. Once also the fastener and the oil line to turbocharger has been released, then, the turbocharger should come out. As pointed out for installation, apply anti seize protectant to the threads of the hardware, replace the O rings when fitting the oil and coolant lines and replace all graphite sealing rings when reinstalling the exhaust manifold and turbo charger. Screw the turbocharger to the cylinder head in two bolts and fit a bolt between the turbocharger and bracket to be tightened later. New bracket bolts were used and should be installed finger tight up until the exhaust manifold is to be fastened to the cylinder head and the fasteners fastened to the block in a sequence. Carry out the final tightening on the remaining fastener Before and after final connection, carry out a BMW scan to check for fault memory and to clear in case there is any Air intake and exhaust system should also be inspected for leaks.

    Q:
How to remove and replace the turbocharger and Exhaust Manifold in 4-6 cylinder for N54 six cylinder engine on BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Eliminate both pre-catalytic converters, and set free right side tie rod acting on the steering rack. Then, it is necessary to uninstall the inteRcooler, turn the engine with idle running until the coolant drains, and then remove the coolant expansion tank. Go on to take out the coolant pump together with two vacuum reservoirs and the air box and air intake duct as well. Unbolt the oil return bolt and the bracket and carefully extract the oil return line from the engines block. At the inter-turbo charger, remove the fasteners and coolant supply hoses. It is allowed, however, to use pliers, but only for getting a firm grip on the flange of the coolant supply line before removing it, although not the pipes. Undo the fasteners of the coolant inlet pipe and the coolant return line, then pull out the coolant return line and the coolant supply line, using the pliers where necessary but should ensure that the wastegate valve linkage is not spoilt. Now unbolt the retaining plate as well as the heat shield; install the heat shield and swing out carry it to the rear. The supply pipe for the coolant can also be disconnected and this goes hand in hand with the heat shield. Disconnect the fasteners from the bracket and place this bracket on top of the cylinder head and the next step is to also disconnect the fasteners from the oil supply line bracket and liberate this line. Remove all the exhaust manifold bolts, and remove exhaust manifold/turbo charger from upper side by pulling out but be careful not to damage wastegate valve linkage, also remove the vacuum hose fitted on wastegate valve. If replacing the turbocharger, unbolt the oil supply line fastener and relocate it on the new unit; graphite gaskets are always required. The rest is very much similar to removal but the new O-rings, gaskets, and hardware is used and the hardware thread is lined with anti-seize lubrication. Last, scan for fault memories with a BMW scan tool and delete, and the air intake and exhaust systems for any signs of leakage.

    Q:
How to remove and install the exhaust manifold and oxygen sensors in 1-3 cylinder for N51,N52 six cylinder engine on BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the rear exhaust manifold and the oxygen sensors. Next, remove the fasteners from the front exhaust manifold and take out the manifold. During installation, which is the reverse of removal, ensure to clean the sealing surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head, use new gaskets and hardware, and check the exhaust system for leaks.

    Q:
How to remove and replace the turbocharger and Exhaust Manifold in 1-3 cylinder for N54 six cylinder engine on BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove both pre-catalytic converters and release the right side tie rod from the steering rack. Next, remove the intercooler, drain the engine coolant, and take out the coolant expansion tank. Proceed to remove the coolant pump and both vacuum reservoirs, followed by the air box and air intake duct. Remove the fasteners on the oil return line and its bracket, then gently pull the oil return line out of the engine block. Working between the turbochargers, remove the fasteners and coolant supply lines. If necessary, grasp the coolant supply line flange with pliers for removal, avoiding the use of pliers on pipes. Remove the fasteners at the coolant inlet pipe and take out the pipe, then remove the coolant return pipe fasteners and the return pipe itself, using pliers on the flange if needed. Remove the fasteners at the retaining plate and the heat shield, ensuring the shield and coolant pipes remain undamaged. Take off the fasteners from the bracket and lay it on top of the cylinder head. If replacing the turbocharger, remove the fastener for the oil supply line and install the supply line on the new unit, always replacing graphite gaskets. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring to use new O-rings, gaskets, and hardware while coating hardware threads with anti-seize lubricant. Finally, check and clear the fault memory using a BMW scan tool, and inspect the air intake and exhaust systems for leaks.
