Removal and refitting of the inlet and exhaust manifolds and the air container (fuel injection) is quite straightforward, but certain models will have coolant hose connections to the inlet manifold for the purpose of induction heating, car interior heater, or automatic choke. In these cases, the cooling system will have to be drained first. Note the separate gaskets used at the individual manifold ports and make sure that they are correctly installed to clean, dry flanges. A sectional exhaust system is used and incorporates a primary and secondary silencer. It is recommended that the complete system is removed from under the car whenever a section or silencer is to be renewed. When installing new components, use new flange gaskets and clamps. Do not tighten the clamps fully until the complete system has been installed and its suspended attitude checked for proximity to adjacent suspension and bodywork components. It is imperative that the exhaust bracket is attached to the rear of the transmission unit in the following way; otherwise, resonance can occur when the car is running. Loosen the retaining plate, press the support gently into contact with the exhaust pipe, and tighten the retaining plate bolts to both the transmission and the support. Finally, tighten the exhaust pipe clamp nuts.
