BMW 17427542912 Engine Cooling Fan Assembly

Start by removing the expansion rivets that mount the fan shroud to the radiator. Disconnect the cooling ducts from the shroud and remove them from the engine compartment. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the right side of the shroud assembly and remove the hoses from the clips on the lower part of the shroud. Remove the screw and expansion rivet from the radiator and fan shroud. Lift the fan upwards and out of the engine compartment, being careful not to damage the radiator. Remove the three screws and the fan motor from the shroud. If necessary, remove the four screws and the timer unit from the shroud.

If necessary, a strip of metal bolted to the drive pulley can be used to counterhold the nut while removing the viscous coupling.

Remove the expansion rivets mounting the fan shroud to the radiator. Remove the front bumper. Unclip and disconnect the fan motor electrical connector. Pry out the four expansion rivets and remove the fan shroud. Finally, remove the four nuts and withdraw the fan and motor.
