Extend the steering column as far back and down as it will go, then remove the instrument cluster fasteners. Using a plastic prying tool, tilt the cluster downward out of the dashboard and slide it sideways to clear the steering wheel. Depress the lock and slide it over to release the electrical connector from the instrument cluster. For installation, reverse the removal process while ensuring that the instrument cluster harness connector locking lever is fully unlocked before installing the connector. Additionally, recode the replacement cluster using a BMW diagnostic scan tool.

The instrument cluster is the control and display of X3 host, receiving signals and data from other systems and sensors via the buses. Another function of the Check Control is to show the state of safety and convenience systems, the indication of malfunctions and the possibility of checking the general clusters electronics by the car owner.
