    Q:
How to remove the oil pan from the engine while it is still on BMW 2002? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before beginning work, drain the engine oil if it's already inside, and remove the stabilizer bar if your car is from 2002. Lift the engine with a hoist to balance its weight while freeing up the engine mountings. Toe the crankshaft until the number four piston tops its highest position. Pull out one of the sump bolts at a time, spacing them equal distances apart in a symmetrical layout. Start where diagonally opposite bolts on the sump are closest together. Take one bolt off, then turn to the other side. When the sump won't come off, don't pry it; use a sharp knife to cut the gasket around it. Don't force off the sump; separate the oil pan from the engine block, then pull it toward the front as you take it apart to go around the oil pump pipe.

    Q:
How to properly install Oil Pan on BMW 2002? Posted by Customer
    A:
Stick the new oil pan gasket into position using jointing compound, applying it liberally to the joints and corners of the timing lower cover mating flange. Smear the oil pan mating flanges with jointing compound and offer it into position, then screw in all the bolts finger tight before tightening them to the specified torque a turn at a time in a diagonally opposite sequence.
