    Q:
What is the role of the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator in maintaining fuel pressure on BMW X5? Posted by Customer
    A:
This is supplied by the fuel pump and regulated through the fuel pressure regulator situated in the fuel filter housing at the lowest part of the vehicle at the left front side of the body. The vacuum line which connects the regulator to the non return fuel rail does not contribute to fuel pressure. For the replacement procedure, refer to the specific guidelines on the removal and installation of the fuel pressure regulator.

    Q:
How to replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator located in the fuel filter on BMW X5? Posted by Customer
    A:
The pressure regulator is mounted under the car at the fuel filter compartment, and one should be very attentive in selecting a new part as part numbers and application data should be cross-checked. First, bring the automobile to the desired working position and provide support to the vehicle. Third, take out the fasteners for the fuel tank underbody protection on the left side so the forward edge of the underbody protection panel be lowered for the access to the fuel filter as well as the carbon canister. When working at the fuel filter, disconnect the vacuum hose, then remove circlip of fuel pressure regulator and, pulling it upward, shake it gently to free it from the fuel filter body. See that fresh sealing O-rings are fitted and the sealing surface is free from contaminants at the time of reassembly. The rest of the installation is carried out in this order and after completing the installation it is necessary to guarantee the absence of leaks before uniting the underbody protection panel.

    Q:
How does the regulator adjust the fuel pressure based on throttle position for the 1995 BMW M3? Posted by Customer
    A:
The regulator has a vacuum line that allows it to adjust the fuel pressure based on intake manifold pressure, which changes with throttle position. When the throttle is opened, the manifold vacuum pressure decreases, causing the regulator to increase fuel pressure and deliver more fuel to the injectors. At idle, the manifold vacuum increases and the regulator decreases fuel pressure.
