BMW 51247295203 Tension Spring, Boot Lid/Tailgate

Using a suitable prying tool, remove the loading aid switch from tailgate trim panel, unlock the plug and disconnect it from the harness, and remove the luggage compartment light from the trunk lid trim; detach the emergency release handle from mounting point by pulling it straight back and disconnect the cable by pushing on the clip in the handle; on the trunk lid release clips and remove the left and right covers, release screws and remove the handle (8), remove the warning triangle and its fasteners (C) and holders (D), release clips and remove the trunk lid trim panel (8), disconnect all cable connections and pull the wiring harness out of the trunk lid; for convertible support struts, note alignment before removing, remove the upper retaining clip and pull the pressurized support strut (8) off the trunk lid, properly support the tailgate because it is heavy and will close without both struts installed, remove the lower retaining clip and remove the strut, replace retaining clips if damaged and reinstall in reverse order, and with an assistant remove fasteners from the left and right sides of the trunk lid and lift the lid off the car, feeding the wiring harness back into the trunk lid and reconnecting all components.
