    Q:
How to replace the throttle body and reset adaptation values on BMW X5? Posted by Customer
    A:
EDK for MS 43 system is an electronic throttle valve assembly that does not include any mechanical connection between accelerator pedal and the throttle plate. The accelerator pedal module at the pedal assembly gives the position of the accelerator directly to the ECM The module sends the position and the rate of movement of the accelerator pedal to the ECM through two variable voltage hall sensors. The throttle housing unit is non-adjustable and where found faulty, the whole unit has to be replaced since it resets adaptation values stored in the ECM. These adaptation values must be reset with the BMW scan tool after the replacement; otherwise, the BMW engine will not start. There are several battery disconnection cautions that one is supposed to read before disconnecting the battery. The on Board Squirt™ air filter housing and air intake ducts must be completely removed, then a number of electrical connectors at the intake manifold and at the oil pressure sender, and the oil temperature sender. The other measures encompass the removal of the electrical connection of the fuel tank venting valve, the separation of the concerned hose and the separation of the valve from the manifold. The wiring harness housing must be disconnected from the throttle assembly by removing the screws which hold the housing and then pulling it apart from the harness plug. The throttle housing can then be removed by undoing its fixing bolts/ screws. While installing, it is done in the reverse manner and it ensures that the profile gasket between the throttle assembly and intake manifold is replaced then properly connecting the throttle assembly connector such that the arrow is facing downwards. Last of all, the test equipment fitted on BMW should be connected to read and erase DTCs, erase ECM memory and, reset adaptation values of throttle plate as depicted on the display.

    Q:
What should be done after the installation is complete for the 2004 BMW X3? Posted by Customer
    A:
Use the BMW scan tool to check and clear fault codes from the ECM memory and reset the throttle adaptation values. It is important to note that if the adaptation process is not completed correctly, the engine will not start.
