1976 BMW 2002 Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and refit the Brake Master Cylinder while ensuring proper brake pedal adjustment with remote seryo unit on 1976 BMW 2002?
A: Syphon the fluid from the reservoir and disconnect the supply hose to the brake master cylinder. Disconnect the leads from the stop lamp switch if located on the brake master cylinder; on some models, the switch may be at the booster or attached to the brake pedal bracket. Disconnect the fluid lines from the brake master cylinder by unscrewing the unions. Remove the accelerator pedal and peel back the carpet from around the brake pedal. Detach the pedal return spring and the pushrod from the foot pedal arm. Remove the securing bolts from the brake master cylinder flange and withdraw the cylinder into the engine compartment. Refitting is a reverse of removal, but bleed the brakes on completion. Check that the brake pedal has a slight free movement so that the brake master cylinder pushrod is not under tension when the pedal is fully released; any adjustment needed can be carried out by slackening the clevis fork locknut and rotating the pushrod.
