Obtain a repair kit specifically for the brake master cylinder fitted to your car, then remove the brake master cylinder and clean away all external dirt. If equipped with remote type servo units, withdraw the flexible bellows and pushrod from the rear end of the brake master cylinder. Apply a little pressure on the end of the brake master cylinder piston to unscrew and remove the stop screw, then extract the circlip from the end of the cylinder body and withdraw the secondary piston and allied components. The primary piston and components can be extracted after releasing the special screw; if any difficulty arises, apply air from a pump to one of the fluid outlet holes while sealing the others with plugs. Clean all components in hydraulic fluid or methylated spirit, keeping the parts in strict order for refitting. Examine the surfaces of the pistons and cylinder bores for scratches, scoring, or 'bright' wear areas; if any are observed, renew the cylinder completely. If the components are in good condition, discard all rubber seals and obtain the appropriate repair kit, manipulating the new seals into place using fingers only. Dip internal components into clean hydraulic fluid before reassembly.
