How to remove and install the lower control arm on 2006 BMW X3?

Lift the car and take off the rear wheels; now secure the car with the help of an adjustable jack stand to the trailing arm. Locate the position of the lower control arm eccentric mounting bolt to the control arm and; unscrew the lower control arm plastic shield. Third, take out the lower control arm mounting bolt at the trailing arm while paying attention to the direction of the thread, in addition take out the lower control arm mounting bolt at the subframe and pull out the lock plate at the other end of the bolt. Gently strike the control arm with a slight hammer to knock it out of its mounting points. If more contact area is required to pull the bolt for its removal, then the differential much have to be separated from the subframe and moved backward slightly. During installation, one must do the reverse of the removal, and when fitting the control arm, the welded seam should be placed upward. Before tightening the bolts at the subframe, fix the lock plate from beneath of the subframe in such a manner that the eccentric bolt head locates on the earlier marked points. Directional should be balanced once the job is done, it is therefore advisable to avail the vehicle for professional alignment.
