How to remove and replace the batteries located in the cargo compartment on 2006 BMW X5?

The battery is located in the cargo compartment and its removal requires taking out the spare tire and air suspension compressor. It is important to replace the battery with one of equal or higher rating. Before disconnecting the battery, it is essential to read the battery disconnection cautions. While working in the cargo compartment, use the spare tire removal aid to take out the spare tire. Next, remove the fasteners on the air suspension compressor supports and tilt the compressor and supports back to access the battery. Disconnect the negative cable first, followed by the positive cable, and then disconnect the battery vent hose at the side of the battery. Remove the hold down bolt at the side of the battery and lift the battery out of the cargo compartment. Clean away any corrosion in and around the battery tray and on the cable ends. When reinstalling the battery, reconnect the negative cable last.
