2011 BMW 335i Axle Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Axle Shaft on 2011 BMW 335i?
A: Before lowering or removing the rear axle carrier, it is recommended to load the luggage compartment with a minimum weight of hundred kilos, two hundred and twenty pounds. when installing the car on the rear subframe, make sure the car cannot be moved up & down or rotated and stays on the locating plates attached to the lifting platform. First, the rear wheels and the exhaust system should be detached, although it should be pointed out that the process may slightly differ depending on the kind of exhaust: single or dual outlet. Subsequently, take out the rear driveshaft, two rear coil springs, and two rear wheel speed sensors; disconnect the wiring harness from the control arm and subframe. Remove electrical connectors of the brake pad wear sensor and ride-height sensor and release both the parking brake cable. Both rear shock absorbers have to be unbolted and a pedal prop has to be used to apply the brake pedal a little in order to stop brake fluid from coming out when the brake lines will be disconnected. First, release the brake line bolts a little; then insert your hands around the brake hoses and unscrew them having covered the opening properly to also expect the dripping of some brake fluid. Bolts and screws surrounding the heat plate need to be loosened so as to detach the heat shield and subframe jack assembly; several specific tools are required for the assembly. Raise the jack assembly until the subframe is supported and then unbolt the rear subframe and front subframe/tension strut in an effort as removing the rear subframe drastically changes the Center of gravity of the car. Gradually lower and retract the rear subframe assembly out of the vehicle and vice versa, jack the assembly back into position, putting in the tension struts and subsequently torquing the subframe mounting bolts. The rest of the installation procedure is the reverse of the removal and at the end the suspension arms and the fasteners of the shock absorbers are tightened only after the final torque and after the vehicle has been lowered to its normal operating position and levels. Press the brake pedal to wee out any traces of brake fluid before operating the car, pull the emergency brake lever and have the car aligned as a professional once you are through.
