Prior to installation of the high pressure pump, ensure that the drive of the vacuum pump is at bottom dead centre. Using a depth gauge, place it flat on the high-pressure pump flange and actuate the engine at the crankshaft belt drive in the clockwise direction until the gauge indicates that the camshaft lobe in the vacuum pump has reached its lowest position. The high pressure pump seal should be changed and coat with engine oil. Slowly fasten-down the high-pressure pump, gradually tightening-down the fasteners alternately in 90° increments until the pump is flush with the mounting flange at which point the fasteners can go to final torque setting. When attaching the connector, be sure to tighten the fasteners evenly to prevent damage. Apply ATF to the carrier face and the outer threads. The pressure lines to the fuel pump and the fuel rail may now be installed finger tight. Further install the hold down bolt positioned at the rear of the cylinder head. Remember to tighten the nuts on the fuel pump. Remove the soundproofing from the top of the high-pressure pump, start the engine, and check for leaks. If there is a leak, change the fuel line. We conclude by checking for fault codes and resetting the ECM memory.
