  Q: How to remove and reinstall the fuel supply module (Fuel Pump and Fuel Tank Sending Unit, and filter) from the fuel tank on BMW 428i?

  The module that supplies fuel comprises the fuel pump, level sensor and filter as one assembly, the components not being available separately and the fuel filter being a lifetime unit. Begin with the siphoning of fuel from the Fuel Tank and in addition to this, ensure the safety warnings. Take off the fuel pump access cover, then disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector by opening the lock and pressing the release lock to pull the fuel delivery line off. Take your special tool and insert it towards the back of the vehicle. Then turn the locking ring in a counter-clockwise direction to release it. After that, unscrew the flange cover from the fuel tank. Further feed out both hoses from the tank and raise the supply module by continuously turning the assembly. Take care not to bend the fuel sender arm and be prepared to catch any dripping fuel. Unplug the plug connection (do not remove other connections) and disconnect the left tank hose by turning it 90° in the direction indicated. To unlock the connector, press the tab and then pull the connector out. To install, perform removal steps in reverse order, replacing sealing rings between the flange and fuel tank and on the connector of the suction tube. Ensure fuel delivery line snaps into place (audible click). Renew damaged parts.
