Q: How to drain the fuel tank?A: To drain the fuel tank, either unscrew the drain plug or syphon the fuel out with tubing. Disconnect the battery's negative terminal lead. Remove the floor panel in the luggage boot and disconnect the leads from the tank transmitter unit. Disconnect the hose from the transmitter unit's pipe. For fuel injection models, there will be two hoses connected to the unit. Release the clip at the base of the filler tube and push the rubber sleeve upwards. Remove the fuel tank securing bolts and lift the tank from its mounting. Note that on 2000 Touring models, the side pocket in the luggage area must be removed before withdrawing the floor panel. If cleaning the tank of sediment, shake it vigorously with paraffin and clean fuel. Before shaking, remove the transmitter unit using two crossed screwdrivers. For temporary repairs on tank leaks, use fiberglass or similar material. Permanent repairs by soldering or welding should be done by professionals after purging the tank of fumes with steam cleaning. Installation is the reverse of removal, but before inserting the transmitter unit, clean the filter gauze and replace the rubber sealing ring.
