How to remove and install the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors on BMW 428i?

Oxygen sensors can be damaged by shock, therefore use care when handling them. Ensure to mark the connectors to avoid possible damage to the engine as well as no mixing up. As a first step, lift the vehicle and secure it. From underneath, detach the front and back splash shields for the engine, then disconnect the exhaust. If you have AWD vehicles, remove the suspension reinforcement plate. Unscrew fastener and take off band clamp. Note that the N20 engine band clasp is different than the one shown. To remove the catalytic converter bracket for the N55 engine, remove fasteners and loosen fastener to release the clamp. While removing the exhaust clamp, make sure the catalytic converter is secured to prevent it from falling. Take out the catalytic converter from under the car and remove the pre-cat and post-cat oxygen sensors. Installation is the reverse of removal. During the installation of N20 and N26 you'll want to align the center of the V-band clamp with the welding spot (8) on the cat to avoid a wastegate lever collision with the V-band clamp.
