The N20 and N26 engines have a single twin scroll turbocharger with exhaust manifold integration, and a removable catalyst downstream. To start with, remove the engine covers and the exhaust and
Catalytic Converter next. Remove the coolant and the engine oil then unplug the fresh air pipe and the charge air pipe. To detach the arm, remove the fasteners and bracket and then pull out the retaining clip from the wastegate arm. Remove the wastegate actuator after disconnecting the electrical connections. Detach the engine wiring harness from the bracket, unclip the fastener and remove the bracket. Remove the fasteners which attached the oil return pipe, have a container ready for the oil dripping, release the fasteners to remove the oil return line. Utilizing an appropriate prying tool, detach the coolant return and feed lines from the turbocharger while ensuring no dripping coolant. Detach the fastener and pry open the oil feed line connection. After that, undo the bolts and pull out the turbocharger from the car. For installation, once the turbocharger is removed, replace the oil supply line, and apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the hardware. In addition, replace the O-rings and graphite sealing rings during the assembly. Mount the exhaust manifold fasteners to the cylinder head and tighten them in the correct sequence to avoid damage. Reverse the removal steps while checking for a leak in the air intake and exhaust system. Clear the fault memory with a BMW scan tool.
