- Q: How to remove the clutch master cylinder on BMW 428i?A:The pedal assembly is where the clutch master cylinder mounts directly above the pedal. To access it, proceed to the left side of the engine compartment, rotate both locking tabs through an angle of 90°, lift at the ring and remove the engine compartment cover. After that, take off the cap from the brake fluid reservoir and use a clean syringe to draw out the brake fluid from the reservoir. Disengage the clutch fluid supply line from the brake fluid reservoir and position a pan below to catch any spills. Remove the lower left trim panel under the dashboard at the pedal cluster. To take out the over-center helper spring, remove retainer, slide out bolt. When reinstalling the retainer, make sure it is seated in the grooves of the bolt and grease the bolts lightly. Unscrew the master cylinder fittings (the clutch pedal is not shown for clarity, but will need to be removed). Remove the clip of the clutch-pedal return spring, and detach the clutch pedal and master cylinder from the bearing block. To detach the master cylinder from the clutch pedal, bring the pin ends together and pull out the pin. Take off the pressure line locking clip and then pull the master cylinder off the line. Wrap the line with shop towels to catch any fluid that may leak out. Brake fluid damages paint and stains carpets. Without pulling it into the vehicle interior, disconnect the supply hose from the master cylinder. Remove the switch module from the master cylinder by pressing the locking button to release the harness connector, pulling the connector off and then using a screwdriver to lever off the switch module.
