BMW M3 Axle Beam
The engine torque is directed towards both the rear wheels of the BMW M3 through the Axle Beam. The Axle Beam, situated deep in the chassis, encases a hypoid differential, which changes driveshaft rotation of ninety degrees, amplifies a turning force, and transmits it through strong driveshafts, so each tire bites hard. The early M3 models applied a solid live Axle Beam. These moved with the suspension and were strong but heavy and had a high unsprung mass.
