With an assistant applying brakes, break free the staked collar nut at the center of the rear wheel hub without removing it completely. The wheel hub collar nut is tightened to a torque of 420 Nm (310 ft-lb), so ensure the car is firmly on the ground. Deactivate and drain the air springs, then raise the rear of the car and remove the rear wheel. Remove exhaust components as needed, then take out the axle shaft mounting bolts from the differential flange. Support the rear wheel bearing carrier with a suitable jack and lift it so that the inboard side of the axle shaft clears the differential. Remove the staked collar nut and press the output shaft out of the wheel hub, then pull the axle shaft towards the center of the vehicle. For installation, follow the reverse order of removal, using a new collar nut and applying a light coating of oil to the contact face of the collar nut before tightening it firmly, but not to final torque. Activate and fill the air suspension, install the road wheel, and lower the car to the ground. With an assistant applying brakes, tighten the axle shaft collar nut to its final torque and stake the collar nut.
