- Q: How to remove and install Ball Joint on BMW X5?A:Check wheel alignment if the rear ball joint is removed. Deactivate the air spring and then remove the rear wheel. Support the rear wheel bearing carrier with a suitable jack. Remove the integral link and the shock absorber at the swing arm. Take out the ball joint circlip from the swing arm and press out the ball joint using BMW special tools 33 4 191, 33 4 192, 33 4 193, and 33 3 333, ensuring the slotted side of 33 4 191 points to the wheel bearing carrier. Draw in the new ball joint using BMW special tools 33 4 191, 33 4 192, 33 4 194, and 33 3 333 until it is fully seated. Install the new circlip, ensuring it snaps securely in place. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, and check the wheel alignment upon completion.
