The CV joint at the rear of the rear driveshaft is available from BMW as a separate part. Begin by removing the rear driveshaft. Clean the grease off the CV joint and remove the retaining circlip from the CV joint end of the driveshaft. Drive out the bolts from the CV joint and remove the CV joint from the driveshaft by prying back the protective boot and using BMW special tool 26 1 070 or 26 1 110 on the inner race to press or pull the joint off the shaft. Check the protective boot for damage and replace it if necessary. For installation of the new CV joint, inject approximately 80 grams of CV joint grease into the joint from both sides, install a new sealing gasket on the joint face that mates with the protective boot, clean the grease off the driveshaft and mating splines on the joint, and apply Loctite® 648 to the driveshaft splines. Press the new CV joint onto the shaft as far as it will go, ensuring to only press on the inner CV joint race. Install the new retaining circlip to the end of the driveshaft, insert the CV joint mounting bolts while reusing the washers, and finally, install the driveshaft.
