    Q:
How to perform frequent oil and Oil Filter changes for preventive maintenance on BMW 325i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Regular oil changes are vital for preventive maintenance purposes. Engine oil dilutes and gets contaminated as it ages causing the engine to wear out prematurely. Before you start, make sure you have everything you need, including a drain pan, breaker bar with a socket, filter wrenches and rubber gloves. Lifting the vehicle on ramps, onto hoists or jack stands will enhance access to the oil drain plug and filter. Be aware of the warm exhaust components while driving under the vehicle where you locate the oil drain plug. Start engine and allow it to run until thermostat opens; then stop engine. Park your car on a flat surface, turn off its power source and open the filler cap of its engine block. Jack up the vehicle using jackstands. Open splash shield flap, which gives you access to both oil pan drain plug for removing old motor oil from beneath your car's engine as well as filter house hold that is situated in front end bulkhead walling into which new filtering elements should be fitted.. In case there is any leaked out petroleum products during this work, always try to surround that area with rags so that we can absorb all spillage around our working zone like when we are changing an automotive part.. It is recommended that one uses a special tool whilst unscrewing or dissembling cartridge cover pieces so that he/she ultimately accesses dirty filters.. Take off used component but at same time without forgetting about O-rings installed thereupon by initially pulling them over aforementioned part's housing side walls along with finally cleaning away waste matters on which they had been caught until now since for this purpose was prepared smooth cloth piece.. Moreover rag must be again utilised wiping clean mating surfaces after having removed old parts because such practice allows maintaining cleaner chamber environment thereby keeping contaminants out of it during following actions primarily taking place inside wrapping separate rings around openings instead pushing different cylindrical bodies within themselves through these openings before smearing them slightly using clear lubricant tearing off bad specimens lying across full housing.. Once all this is done, adjusted seals are placed back onto their initial position before installing new filtered media into covering unit which again would be lubricated by using fresh engine oil instead putting cover having entire set previously removed right into mounting hole that leads towards separate sides.. On the other hand, oil drain plug ought to be loosened beneath the motor vehicle so as to let out; and a container should be placed below it in order to keep some of it for future purposes. Completely remove the plug and allow draining of old lubricant. Wipe clean the drain plug and install a new gasket tightening the plug firmly. Remove old oil and tools from under the car, then lower it. Pour slightly less than recommended amount of oil through filler cap into engine. Start engine, run 3 minutes, check for leaks. Check oil level and reset CBS display. Take used oil to recycling center rather than disposing on ground or down a drain.
