Jack up the car and take of the front wheel and later on replace the centre cap and refit the wheel and finally lower the car back to the ground. While at this have an assistant press down on the brake to free up the collar axle nut which should not be refitted. Lift the car once again and remove the front wheel and then the under body splash shield. Loosen the brake caliper by its nuts and rotate it aside, fix it with stiff wire while keeping the brake hose connected, then take off the front brake disc and the wheel speed sensor. Remove the outer tie rod and separate the tie rod with the steering knuckle; unbolt the tension strut ball joint from the steering knuckle. After this, remove the control arm coming from the steering knuckle, and push out the drive axle from the steering knuckle with the help of a hammer making sure that it is held to avoid falling. If the vehicle has independent front suspension, unbolt the front strut from the steering knuckle. The procedure for installation is the reverse of removal but care must be taken to ensure that the bolt head of the steering knuckle pinch bolt is installed in the direction of travel, the self-locking fasteners should be remove and replaced with new ones and the steering knuckle should come to the stop on the strut, the side of the axle nut should be staked to the axle using a suitable drift and the tension strut and control arm bushing end Last but not the least, using the road wheel tighten the drive axle collar nut to the final torque when the vehicle is lowered.
