This is a complex operation that involves removing the transmission from the vehicle. Before starting, make sure you have the necessary lifting and support equipment. Begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable and raising the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the engine/transmission under-shields, starter motor, and driveshaft. Take off the under-shield bracket and shift lever support bracket from the transmission. Disconnect the selector rod pin and remove the clutch release cylinder. Disconnect all electrical connectors and remove any wiring harnesses from the transmission case. Remove the exhaust mounting bracket if applicable. Unscrew the bolt securing the engine/transmission adapter plate and remove the flywheel lower cover plate if necessary. Place a block of wood between the engine oil pan and steering gear to prevent tipping. Use a transmission jack to support the transmission and remove the crossmember and mounts. Remove the engine-to-transmission bolts and slide the transmission rearward to disengage the input shaft from the clutch. To install, check the clutch friction disc and inspect the clutch release bearing and lever. Make sure the transmission positioning dowels are in place and tighten all fasteners to their specified torque. Grease the gear selector arm pivot pin and gear selector rod pin before installation. Reconnect the driveshaft and install the starter motor.
