    Q:
How to remove and install Flywheel on BMW Z4? Posted by Customer
    A:
New flywheel driveplate retaining bolts will be required on installation, and thread-locking compound may be necessary. Begin by removing the manual or automatic transmission, and for models with a manual transmission, take out the clutch. To remove the bolts, lock the flywheel/driveplate in position using a flywheel locking tool, which should be bolted to the engine block with one of the transmission-to-engine bolts. Progressively loosen and remove the retaining bolts, then withdraw the flywheel/driveplate from the crankshaft, taking care as it is heavy and noting that it locates on dowels. If an engine/transmission intermediate plate is installed, remove it while noting its orientation. For installation, reinstall the intermediate plate, ensuring it is correctly located on the dowel(s). Reinstall the flywheel/driveplate to the crankshaft end, ensuring the locating dowel engages, with the position indicated by notches on dual-mass flywheels. Examine the threads of the new retaining bolts; if not coated with thread-locking compound, apply a non-hardening compound before reinstalling the bolts. Tighten the bolts progressively in a diagonal sequence to the specified torque and lock the flywheel/driveplate by reversing the tool used during removal. If applicable, reinstall the clutch and then the transmission.

    Q:
How to remove and install the flywheel on BMW X3? Posted by Customer
    A:
When replacing/ removing the flywheel in vehicles with manual transmission, then, first take out the front and rear driveshafts and fix them on the side. Thirdly, take out the transmission and then the clutch. Check the flywheel for scorings, overheated area, cracks, loose or worn out guide pin and if all these are noted the flywheel must be changed. Screw the flywheel on the shaft in such a manner that they are bolted with each other and use a key to lock the flywheel in position. MuScrew and nuts of the flywheel should then be freed after which the flywheel should be withdrawn and the threads of the bolts which are on the crankshaft should be cleaned. It also checks the position of the dowel sleeve on the flywheel location, to to see whether or not it is appropriately damaged. On replacement of the flywheel, he should install a new transmission pilot bearing and locating dowel sleeve should be positioned adjacent of the two locating notches. The assembly of the flywheel requires the replacement of new self-locking bolts; do not use old stretch-type bolts or apply any thread-locking compound.

    Q:
How to remove and install the Flywheel on BMW X3? Posted by Customer
    A:
Crankshaft rear main (flywheel) seal replacement involves removing the transmission, using BMW special tool 119260 or an equivalent to lock the flywheel, removing, loosening and discarding the flywheel bolts and removing the torque plate and flywheel. One should ensure that a thread in the crankshaft has been cleaned to apply a bolt on it. While installing the flywheel, it should be aligned dor to the dowel sleeve and the mounting holes on the torque plate on flywheel and on the torque converter should also align. Also, for a more rigid installation, it is required to use the new flywheel bolts.

    Q:
How should the flywheel be tightened and torqued for the 1997 BMW Z3? Posted by Customer
    A:
Using new fasteners coated with a suitable locking agent, tighten and torque in a three-step crisscross pattern. The torque values vary depending on the engine type and transmission. For example, S14/M20 M12 fasteners: 82-94 ft. lbs. (113-130 Nm), M42/M44 micro encapsulated fasteners: 88.5 ft. lbs. (120 Nm), all engines with automatic transmission, micro-encapsulated fasteners: 88.5 ft. lbs. (120 Nm), all others: micro-encapsulated fasteners: 77.4 ft. lbs. (105 Nm).

    Q:
How can the viscous coupling of a dual mass flywheel be checked for the 1996 BMW M3? Posted by Customer
    A:
To check the viscous coupling, place a protective cloth over the pressure plate and rotate it in a clockwise direction until the flywheel barely begins to move. Match mark the pressure plate and the outer body of the flywheel. Then, rotate the pressure plate in a counterclockwise direction until the flywheel barely begins to move and match mark it again. The pressure plate should be able to be moved between the two match marks without excessive force or looseness.
