    Q:
How to properly drain and replace the power steering pump in N52 six cylinder engine on BMW X3? Posted by Customer
    A:
Replace the current power steering fluid by using a clean syringe to siphon the contents of the fluid reservoir, this fluid should not be reused. Lift up the bonnet of the vehicle and take off the intake filter housing. If reusing the belt then remove the accessory belt from the power steering pump and mark the direction of its rotation. And in front of it, before it bolted into place, the power steering pulley comes off with the fastenings. In the engine compartment, you need to unscrew the hose clamp, disconnect the hose for fluid intake from the pump, while ready to cover any dripping fluid. Thoroughly seal the holes in the pump and the hose end in order to avoid accumulation of any contaminants. On the driver's side of the engine block, pull out the following: the pump mounting bolts, the splash shield from under the engine. Undo the pressure fitting and pressure line then unlatch the pump and take out the bolts used in mounting the pump, always remember to take note of spacers or shims used and then pull out the pump from the engine bay. On the installation it should be a regime that all thread bore, bolts, nuts, fluid couplings and mating surfaces must be clean. When connecting the power steering hose again one should use new sealing rings and the hoses should be positioned don't interfere with the chassis exceptionally thinly. Use new aluminum fasteners and install the pump according to the torque sequence: to tighten all the fasteners of the power steering pump to 2 Nm (18 in-lb), and the bolts on the front side of the power steering pump to the engine block according to the torque specification as well as the angle, and then loosening the fasteners on one side of the power steering pump and checking to ensure that there is enough space for it to move, and then the bolts on the side of the power steering pump Power steering system requires to be filled and bled.

    Q:
How to drain and replace the power steering pump and fluid in the M54 six cylinder engine on BMW X3? Posted by Customer
    A:
Empty the power steering fluid taking as a caution, not to refill the same fluid back to the power steering system. Junction the car to a lifting point and lower the front of the car, then self deploy of the left front wheel, then reduce the splash shield located under the engine. Take the accessory belt off the power steering pump; if the belt is to be reused, place a mark on it showing the direction of its rotation. Having the vehicle raised, the hoses connected to the pump have to be disconnected, which is why wear protective gloves and napkins to clean up any dripping fluids. Detach the clamp on the suction hose and disconnected its end that was connected to the pump and remove the pressure fitting and pressure line. Screw tight the plug on the holes at the ends of the pump and the hose to curb contamination. At the front side of the Pump, unbolt the power steering pully and then remove it. Take off the idler pulley of the alternator, then unbolt the pump, paying attention to special spacers and shims if there are any and having removed the pump from the engine compartment. Removal is the exact opposite of installation and involves removing the pressure fitting seal and then the hose clamp of the fluid lines. Last but not the least, refill and also bleed the power steering system.
