Take off the tie-rod end and the screws, then you will have to remove the engine splash shield. Observe the correct installation position of the boot on the tie-rod, when it is possible to release the retaining clip(s) and slide the boot off the rack and pinion and tie-rod end. Thoroughly remove rust, rough, sharp surfaces on the tie-rod and rack and pinion housing surfaces where the new boot's sealing lips will have to fit on by polishing these with the fine abrasive paper. All grease must be removed from the old boot but the same boot should then be applied to the tie-rod inner ball joint with fresh grease if any doubt prevails over its contamination. Carefully place on the tie-rod end the new boot and place it on the rack and pinion housing in the position noted above with the outer edge of the boot. Check that the boot is not twisted and then use a flat blade to raise up the outer sealing lip so that air pressure in the boot is even and then snap the new retaining clip into place. Lastly, replace the tie-rod ball joint that was previously removed to allow the tapping process to be done.
