- A:Disconnect the brake pad sensor harness connector and detach the harness. Remove the brake pad sensor. To replace pads, drive out the top retaining pin, remove the bottom pad pin, and cross-spring. Using needle-nose pliers, remove the inboard brake pad. If special tool #34 1 050 is available, remove both pads; otherwise, remove one. Push the caliper pistons into the bores, ensuring the master cylinder reservoir doesn't overflow. BMW specifies using brake pad paste. Position the new brake pads into the caliper, install the wear sensor, and depress the brake pedal several times.
