- A:The front wheel bearing and hub assembly removal process involves several steps and requires special tools: Raise the car and remove the front wheel. Use a drift to release the staked side of the collar nut. With an assistant holding down the brake, remove the collar nut using a BMW special tool. Unbolt the brake caliper and hang it aside with stiff wire. Remove the brake disc. Remove the wheel hub using BMW special tools and 5 wheel lugs. Remove the steering knuckle and clamp it in a bench vice with aluminum clamping jaws. Use snap ring pliers to remove the wheel bearing circlip. Remove the wheel bearing using BMW special tools. Check and replace the dust sleeve if necessary. Clean the steering knuckle bearing surface and apply Loctite 638®. Install the new bearing using BMW special tools and add a new wheel bearing circlip. Replace the wheel hub and draw it into the steering knuckle using BMW special tools. Install the steering knuckle and front axle.Posted by BMWPartsDeal Specialist
