In order to have access to the suspension strut assembly you have to lift the front part of the car and place it on stands in order for the suspension to be hanging and not touching the floor. Loosen the brake caliper to take off the road wheel without disconnecting the hydraulic pipes; fasten it to the underbody to prevent the pressure on the brake hoses. Remove the one from the outer end of the control arm to the suspension strut and then removes the three nuts where three of them fasten wheel arch to the upper end of the suspension strut and then the assembly is removed. Whenever disassembling, first, check that suspension strut assemblies or damper units are put in pairs so as to get the right matching on the side. If necessary, it is necessary to pull off the brake disc and components of the wheel hub. A spring compressor tool is used in removing and refitting a coil spring in a manner that all spring pressure is released before undoing the locknut and removing the thrust bearing. In case of a bearing failure, then the bears has to be replaced in its entirety. When the spring compressor is free, take out the coil spring and the upper spring seat; where new coil springs are being used, ensure that they are of equal length, thickness and strength as the original ones where necessary. To remove the damper you must take out the sleeve and auxiliary spring and, using a special tool, unscrew the threaded ring thus enabling you to lift out the damper unit. When about to place in a fresh damper, deploy fifty cc of SAE 30 engine oil in the strut tube to facilitate heat exchange. The reverse of dismantling procedures indicates that the bleeder plate must be fitted rightly and there should be the sealing washer and the flat washer positioned above the thrust bearing before the applying of the locknut and the concave face of the sealing washer should face the bearing. In refitting perform the above process in reverse manner; lock the nuts on the steering arm to the suspension strut assembly by using new soft wire if the wheel hub assembly was taken apart; reassemble it and align. Last of all, deliver the brake caliper and then pump the brake pedal several times so as to get the right calibration.
