    Q:
How to remove a rear shock absorber on BMW 325i? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the shock absorber, start by blocking the front wheels and raising the rear of the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the rear wheel for better access. On E-series chassis models, remove the luggage compartment side trim panel. Position a fioojack underneath the hub carrier and raise it to support the weight of the carrier. Loosen and remove the nut securing the shock absorber to the lower mount, counterholding the shock absorber shaft with a wrench. From within the luggage compartment, pry up the rubber cap and unscrew the upper mounting nut, counterholding the shock absorber shaft with a wrench. Lower the shock absorber out from underneath the vehicle. If necessary, remove the two bolts and remove the mounting from the suspension arm. On F30, F31, and F34 chassis, remove the cover from the camber arm and loosen the shock absorber lower bolt/nut. Remove the three mounting bolts from the top of the shock absorber, then lower the jack and remove the shock absorber through the wheel well. To inspect the shock absorber, remove the trim cap, bump stop, and protective tube. Check for signs of fluid leakage, pitting on the piston, and damage on the body. Test the operation of the shock absorber by moving the piston through a full stroke and short strokes, ensuring smooth and continuous resistance. Replace the shock absorber if there are any signs of wear or damage. Inspect other components for damage or deterioration and replace as needed. Slide the tube, bump stop, and cap onto the shock absorber. For installation, follow the reverse steps of removal, ensuring proper torque settings and alignment.
