Do not use a memory saving device to preserve the PCM's memory when working on or near airbag system components. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Place the steering column in the fully lowered and extended position, then remove the steering wheel. Loosen the upper column shroud retaining screw and pull out the plastic rivet, gently squeezing the sides of the trim to disengage it. Raise the column to the highest position, push in the center pins of the two expanding rivets securing the lower shroud, and remove it. Disconnect the wiring connectors from the airbag contact unit, wiper, and indicator switches, then remove the four retaining screws to lift the switch assembly. If needed, the switches can be removed from the assembly by releasing the retaining clips. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring correct wiring routing and centralization of the airbag contact unit. Carefully pry the decorative strip from the driver's side of the dash above the light switch, then open the glove box to remove screws and maneuver it from the instrument panel. Remove screws from the light switch, lift it slightly, and disconnect the wiring connector. For hazard and central locking switches, unclip the shift lever boot, remove the rear ashtray, and lift the center console to access the switches. For electric window switches, unclip the gear lever boot, remove retaining screws, and press in the locking tabs to remove the switches. For the exterior mirror switch, carefully pry it out from the armrest and disconnect the wiring connector. Remove the driver's side lower dash panel to access the cruise control clutch switch, disconnect the wiring connector, and slide the switch out. For heated rear window switches, if integral to the control unit, seek dealer advice; otherwise, remove the heater control panel, disconnect the switch wiring connector, and pull the switch from the panel. For heated seat, electric rear sun blind, and traction control switches, remove the storage compartment, disconnect the wiring connector, and slide the switch out. For the parking brake warning switch, remove the rear section of the center console, disconnect the wiring connector, and remove the switch. For the brake light switch, consult relevant information. The courtesy light switches are part of the door/trunk lid/tailgate lock assembly. For steering wheel switches, either a Multifunction or Sports steering wheel is used; remove the driver's airbag, then proceed accordingly. For the Multifunction steering wheel, pry the switch from the wheel and disconnect the wiring connectors. For the Sports steering wheel, remove retaining screws and unclip the switch carrier panel. For the electric sunroof switch, depress the clip and pull the switch from the panel, disconnect the wiring connector, and slide the switch out. For the ignition switch and steering column lock, consult relevant information.
