    Q:
How to replace the Throttle Body in the N54 six cylinder engine on BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
There is no mechanical link between the accelerator pedal and the throttle plate. The accelerator pedal module at the pedal assembly communicates pedal position directly to the ECM, providing two variable voltage signals via Hall sensors for pedal position and rate of movement. The ECM supplies independent voltage and ground for each Hall sensor, with each receiving 5 volts and ground. As the accelerator pedal moves from rest to full throttle, the sensors generate a variable voltage signal. The output of the Hall sensors is checked for plausibility, with Hall sensor 1 ranging from approximately 0.5 to 4.5 volts and Hall sensor 2 from approximately 0.5 to 2.5 volts. The throttle housing unit is non-adjustable and should be replaced as a complete unit if found faulty. After replacement, a BMW scan tool or equivalent is needed to reset adaptation values, as failure to complete this process correctly will prevent the engine from starting. To replace the throttle housing, switch the ignition off and remove the key, then remove the air filter housing and ducts, followed by the charge air ducts. Disconnect the line at the side of the throttle assembly and the electrical connector underneath it, then remove the fasteners and the throttle housing. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the throttle assembly connector is reattached carefully to avoid twisting, which can damage the harness and connector. Replace the profile gasket between the throttle assembly and intake manifold, and after reinstalling, check for fault codes and reset ECM memory, followed by resetting throttle plate adaptation values according to on-screen directions.

    Q:
How to replace the Throttle Body housing in the N55 six-cylinder engine on BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
The accelerator pedal is not mechanically connected to the throttle plate as the accelerator pedal module sends the position of the pedal using two variable voltage signals from Hall sensors to the ECM. In return, the ECM offers a 5V signal and ground for each sensor, while the sensors themselves are asked to produce a proportional voltage value, across the entire pedal travel range from the fully relaxed state to full throttle. Hall sensor 1 operates at a voltage of 0.5 to 4.5 volts while Hall sensor 2 operates at a voltage of 0.5 to 2.5 volts. This unit either the throttle housing or the case is non adjustable and hence has to be replaced in its entirety if damaged. Upon replacement, adaptation values must be reset with a BMW scan tool or equivalent since failure to perform it results in the non-starting of the engine. The procedure requires putting off the ignition, the air filter housing and ducts and disconnecting the charge air ducts. To disassemble the tank vent valve it is required to disconnect the electrical connector as well as the vent lines. When working in throttle assembly area, electrical connection should be disconnected, and some bolts off so that part of throttle housing can be slightly opened to allow disconnecting the vent line. Installation is done in the same sequence, paying much attention to the manner in which the throttle assembly connector is connected since any twisting on the harness tends to damage the entire harness set up. A profile gasket must be replaced between the throttle assembly and intake manifold and, after reinstalling the unit, it is necessary to check for fault codes and to reset ECM memory also specific adaptation values for the throttle plate, as directed by on-screen prompt.

    Q:
What voltage range is expected from Hall sensor 1 and Hall sensor 2 for the 2007 BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Hall sensor 1 ranges from approximately 0.5 to 4.5 volts, while Hall sensor 2 ranges from about 0.5 to 2.5 volts.
