In the multi-function control alternator there is a charge indicator lamp, whose electrical connection is an integrated electronic switch in the alternator controller, which is fed from terminal 15 of the 3-pin connector at the rear of the alternator. The controller monitors the voltage between terminals 30 and 15 and by means of sending a message to the ECM to illuminate the charge indication lamp. It also incorporates built-in self-diagnostic capability for faults that energizes the battery charge indicator lamp if there is failure of the accessory belt, no charge due to an electrical or electronic fault, interruption in the excitation circuit, over-voltage due to a defective controller output stage, a break or fault in the charge line or no charge due to a fault in the alternator.
